Cinderella III – A Twist in Time

Cinderella III – A Twist in Time

Undoubtedly, Cinderella and the Prince were meant to be together. But, have you ever found yourself wondering what would’ve happened if the glass slipper fit someone other than Cinderella? Cinderella’s evil Stepmother and Stepsisters, Anastasia and Drusilla, shows us exactly what will happen. Our familiar happy ending  is changed when Anastasia steals the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and her mother uses it to turn back the hands of time and then cast a spell on the glass slipper so that it will fit on Anastasia’s foot. The Prince quickly realizes that something is wrong, but a quick zap from the magic wand convinces him that Anastasia is his rightful bride-to-be and it looks like nothing that Cinderella or her friends, Jaq and Gus, can do to fix things.

There are two questions that remain. What will become of Cinderella? And can Anastasia really find true happiness by marrying someone who will never love her for who she really is?

This animated tale follows the classic “Cinderella” and its sequel “Cinderella II–Dreams Come True” and features new stories between familiar secondary characters, such as the evil cat Lucifer, and Cinderella’s mouse friends Jaq and Gus. Also included are tons of new songs, and an engaging and suspenseful story line.

Sleeping Beauty (Two-Disc Platinum Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo + BD Live) [Blu-ray] (1959)

Sleeping Beauty DVD/Blu-ray Combo

Sleeping Beauty was actually the last and most extravagant animated fairy tales from the legendary Walt Disney. Artists for this classic were encouraged to not rush and to take their time when submitting illustrations for this awesome cartoon. In lieu of the 19th century storybook illustrations that previous influenced the look of other classics such as Snow White and Pinocchio, the artists used jewel-like colors inspired by 15th century French illuminated manuscripts. The result is a magnificent visual experience.

Sleeping Beauty was originally released in 70mm. The Blu-ray edition restores the fantastic film to its original brilliance. The Bonus DVD looks good on a flat screen TV or monitor, but it fails to compare to the richness of the Blu-ray disc. Also included in this set is a making-of documentary and a countless number of extras that vary widely in picture quality.

Beauty and the Beast (Two-Disc Diamond Edition) (1991)

Beauty and the Beast DVD

Beauty and the Beast was the only animated feature to receive a Best Picture Oscar nomination, and still remains a staple by which all other animated films are measured. The story revolves around a young lady named Belle who is a bit of a bookworm and her father. Her father is makes the mistake of offending the Beast, who is actually a prince who refuses to love anyone besides himself, and is supposed to serve him at his mansion. Instead, Belle takes her father’s place, and is imprisoned in the Beast’s gloomy mansion. Belle eventually teaches the Beast to love.

What makes Beauty and the Beast such a smash, besides the wonderful job at animation and the awesome array of supporting characters is the inclusion of  several beautiful and side-splitting songs by composer Alan Menken and the late, lyricist Howard Ashman. The title song, “Beauty and the Best”, sang by Celine Dion and Peabo Byson, won the 1991 Best Song Oscar, and Menken’s score scored a trophy as well.
